app scans your skin for melanoma

SKINVISION, INDEX: AWARD 2013 FINALIST.

Skin conditions in general, and skin cancer – melanoma in particular – almost always have a cause related to lifestyle. SkinVision‘s goal is to help change those lifestyles so more people stay healthy and the ones that need treatment receive it in time.

About 65% of melanoma cases can be attributed to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer and skin cancer is the most common type of cancer there is. Regularly checking your moles or lesions is required for prevention and early detection of melanoma skin cancer, but it can be difficult to know what you should look for when you are checking yourself or others.

It is a good thing we now have SkinVision, a mobile app that can be used to analyze and monitor moles. All you have to do is upload images of moles on your skin from your smart phones using mobile applications that can be downloaded for iOS and selected Android devices. A mathematical algorithm that has been developed by a team of dermatologists, mathematicians and computer scientists, then analyzes the mole and provides a risk classification, telling you whether the mole is suspicious or not suspicious and encourages you to either see a dermatologist, carefully monitor changes or simply stay alert. This way, you are quickly alerted to any potential danger.

The mobile app allows you to understand your skin’s health, keep track of it and to understand UV index along with your skin type. Personalized tracking of local UV exposure on a daily basis enables SkinVision to help you better understand how you can apply healthy and preventive behaviors with regard to skin cancer.

Awareness of skin conditions in general, and skin cancer melanoma in particular almost always have a cause related to lifestyle, and SkinVision’s goal is to help change those lifestyles so more people stay healthy and the ones that need treatment receive it in time.

Having your own private skin doctor at your fingertips, does not mean that you don’t have to be careful in the sun or anywhere else. SkinVision is a tool that can only help you out, if you use it properly. When that is said, if SkinVision is used correctly it could be an enemy to Melanoma and a friend to you and me.

And that is definitely good news!
